During January, Warner Bros. announced an agreement with Hollywood legend Tom Cruise (War of the Worlds) to develop original content and new franchises. According to recent reports, the company is in negotiations to develop the second installment of Edge of Tomorrow. The sci-fi feature, directed by Doug Liman (Road House), was well received by fans of the genre. Warner Bros. executives Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca are making efforts to convince the actor to return for this sequel, although his busy schedule may delay the project. Cruise has previously collaborated with the company on blockbusters such as The Last Samurai (2003) and Interview with the Vampire (1994).
The first installment transports us to the near future, where an alien race is trying to exterminate humanity. In this desperate struggle for survival, the performances of Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Bill Paxton (Titanic) and Brendan Gleeson (The Spirits of the Island) stand out, giving life to key characters in the resistance against the alien invaders.
Despite possible plans to reprise the role, it is official that Cruise may be looking to distance himself from action roles. Although everyone knows him for being the visible face of franchises such as Mission: Impossible and Top Gun, the actor is now looking for more authorial and prestigious projects. There has been speculation about his possible collaboration with directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia) and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds).
Although talks are at an early stage, fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of this project. We will be watching to see if it finally materializes. Although the proposal for the film is still there, it is not yet known if it will be carried out. For now, we can only wait.
