The Pokémon Concierge series, which debuted in December 2023 on Netflix, marked a notable shift in the Pokémon universe by adopting the stop-motion technique for its animation. This visual peculiarity, uncommon in the current era, attracted viewers' attention for its handcrafted and distinctive aesthetics. Both Netflix and The Pokémon Company announced via Twitter that the series will have a continuation with new episodes in the near future. However, due to the demands of the stop-motion technique, the first installment consisted of just four chapters, each lasting no more than twenty minutes.
The story introduces us to Haru, a young girl tasked with working as a concierge at the Pokémon Resort, where her job was to ensure the comfort and happiness of guests while exploring her own journey of self-discovery. Although classic characters such as Pikachu, Eevee and Bulbasaur made an appearance, the center of attention was the endearing Psyduck.
The creative team behind the series featured the expertise of Dwarf Studios, known for their work on the hit Netflix original series Rilakkuma and Kaoru. In addition, director Ogawa Iku (Hidari), an Annie Award nominee for his direction on the series, will return for the upcoming episodes.
Producer Hidenaga Katakami (Detective Pikachu) offered a perspective on future stories, suggesting a different approach by stating, "Because we are on an island, a lot of Pokémon appeared that have some relation to water. In the future, maybe it will be interesting if we do the opposite. For example, electric Pokémon are not very good around water, but maybe it will be fun if we take them to an island and see how they react."
Although no specific dates have yet been announced, audiences are eagerly awaiting the return of this charming miniseries.
