Things were looking very bad for Scream 7, the long-awaited installment of the famous horror franchise that was having a resurrection at the box office with the last few films, where the old cast joins a new cast of leading ladies headed by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Despite the departure of Neve Campbell in Scream VI, the film was able to hold its own thanks to the new generation of characters accompanied by veteran Courteney Cox, who was back for yet another installment taking on the role of Gale Weathers.
However, things have taken a sharp turn with the next installment due to the controversial firing of Melissa Barrera and the subsequent departure of Jenna Ortega, in addition to the departure of its director, Christopher Landon. Since then things have been at a standstill waiting for the project managers to convince Neve Campbell (the last hope to keep the franchise afloat) to return to the saga. And it seems that they have already achieved their goal.
It has been the actress herself who has confirmed her return to the horror saga through social networks. In an Instagram post, Neve Campbell has revealed that she will return as Sidney Prescott in the next installment of Scream. The publication shows a photograph with the script of Scream 7, where it is confirmed that its director will be Kevin Williamson, a name well known by fans of the franchise to be the screenwriter of Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 4.
At the moment there is no confirmed release date for Scream 7, but with the script already in Neve Campbell's possession it seems that the start of filming is imminent.
