Almost five decades since the release of The Omen, the iconic film that marked the horror genre in 1976 with its mysterious and diabolical plot, now comes The First Omen, a prequel that promises to reveal the origins of this dark universe. Under the challenge faced by all sequels, prequels and reboots, the fim deals with the events leading up to the birth of the child Damien, better known as the Antichrist.
The new title takes place in Rome and follows a young American woman who, seeking to join the Church to change her life, soon discovers that she is actually at the heart of a shadowy organization. The goal of this religious group is to do everything possible to bring about the birth of an evil figure that will change the world forever. This is an origin story about Damien, one of the darkest characters in horror cinema.
Nell Tiger Free is the new main face of the saga. The British actress is also part of AppleTV+'s 'Servant,' a series. Tiger gives life to who seems to be Damien's biological mother. She will also be joined by Tawfeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson and Bill Nighy.
As a prequel to The Omen, it makes sense that it is looking to rekindle the impact of the original, whose mix of dramatic tension and supernatural horror appealed to a wide audience when it was first experienced in 1976 (it even took home an Oscar for its music).
The First Omen will answer many open questions when it hits theaters next April 4.
