In 1978, Jim Davis' creation, Garfield, burst into pop culture as one of the most iconic felines, noted for his distinctive orange fur and a personality that takes him far from the stereotypical cuddly, cuddly cat. Rather, everyone knows the character for his inordinate love of food, his sarcastic humor and his obvious disdain for Mondays. Under the production of Sony Pictures (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), comes a new animated film entitled The Garfield Movie, which promises to revive the adventures of the grumpy cat in a new journey. Directed by Mark Dindal, known for his work on films such as The Emperor's New Groove (2001) and Chicken Little (2005), this production promises large doses of humor and heart, inherent characteristics of the endearing character, as shown in the new trailer.
In addition, along with the teaser, the production company provides a tantalizing glimpse of what awaits viewers: "Garfield, the famous lasagna-loving cat who hates Mondays, is about to have an adventure away from home. After an unexpected reunion with his absent father, a dirty alley cat named Vic, Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced to abandon their quiet life to join Vic on a hilarious, high-stakes heist."
The voice cast for this production is another of its highlights, with the participation of well-known stars. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) lends his voice to the protagonist, Garfield, while Samuel L. Jackson (Violent Times), Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Road Rage), Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible), Hannah Waddingham (Hocus Pocus 2) and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), among others, complete a luxury cast that promises a memorable experience.
The Garfield Movie will hit theaters in is May 23, 2024.
