"When the last thing you expect becomes the only thing you want," is the tagline for Prime Video's new film, The Idea of You. In fact, the text alludes to the provocative romance that emerges between Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine's characters (Red, White and Royal Blue), who play an atypical couple with a 15-year age difference, who will face public and media scrutiny.
Based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee, the plot centers on Solène (Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mother and gallery owner who, after a chance encounter at the Coachella festival, begins a relationship with Hayes Campbell (Galitzine). The young man, barely 24 years old [20 in the books] is not just any earthly being, but the leader of the August Moon boy band, the most famous of the moment. There is no way to tell this story without it reminding us of a predictable fanfiction, but as seen in its first official trailer, there is an explicit criticism of the marginalization of women's sexuality in middle age, which adds an interesting conflict to the dynamics of the couple.
Galitzine's characterization, added to her gestures and postures in the official photos, makes the association of her character with the popular singer Harry Styles inevitable. Although the One Direction member was one of the stars that inspired Robinne Lee to build her protagonist (she also took Eddie Redmayne as a reference), the artist is not the main focus of the plot. Quite the opposite. "The film is very much about the concept of age and getting older," Hathaway previewed for the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
The title will arrive on the streaming platform on May 2, 2024.
