Bambi, Disney's cute fawn, is set to be the next children's character to make the leap to horror films. In 2023, Jagged Edge Productions released Winnie the Pooh: Honey and Blood, a savage adaptation of the yellow bear that shocked the world. Its quality was abysmal, but it was nonetheless a box-office success. That's why the studio has decided to create a whole shared universe. The next film will be Winnie the Pooh: Honey and Blood 2, but after that it will be the turn of Bambi: The Reckoning.
The film will tell a new horror story with a deer as the main character. But it will not be the friendly animal that audiences are used to. On the contrary, it will be a killing machine capable of wiping out everything in its path. The protagonists of the film will be Xana and her son Benji, who suffer a car accident. Stranded in the middle of the forest, they must try to survive the unexpected and sadistic threat.
To better understand the tone of the story, the company has already released the first trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning. It is a minute-long video in which a group of hunters practice their aim. One of them misses the shot and the other asks him a question, "Have you ever shot a deer?". "No, have you?" his partner replies. "Yes, once...", replies the first one. A clear reference to the death of Bambi' s mother in the original story, which was a turning point in the character's life.
Bambi: The Reckoning will be part of the Poohniverse. Also, this macro horror franchise project will feature the Winnie the Pooh and Bambi films, but also other classic characters from children's stories and movies.
Bambi: The Reckoning opens in theaters on December 5.
