Production and distribution company Neon, known for its work on projects such as It Lives Inside and Infinity Pool, has built a reputation for producing horror films. Continuing in this vein, it is approaching the release of its next film titled Cuckoo. Neon revealed the first teaser and, along with the new trailer, the official synopsis is also out: "Unwillingly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved to a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Upon arriving at her future residence, she encounters the strange boss of her new home."
As the plot progresses, the protagonist experiences unexplainable phenomena such as apparitions and strange sounds during the night. In her attempt to uncover the truth, Gretchen probes among the hotel's inhabitants, confronting her enigmatic boss with the question, "Why did you bring us here?"
The film, imbued with dark and sinister overtones, features actress Hunter Schafer, known for her starring role in the hit HBO series Euphoria, alongside Zendaya (Dune), Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) and Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You). Recently, we also saw her on the big screen in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, where she played the role of Tigris. On the other hand, Dan Stevens known for his roles in Beauty and the Beast and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, plays the enigmatic hotel owner. Rounding out the cast are Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) and Kalin Morrow(Ideologies). There is no doubt that this will be a great role for Hunter's career.
Cuckoo, directed and written by filmmaker Tilman Singer(Light), is scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on August 9, 2024.
