Since its release in 1993 by Steven Spielberg (Indiana Jones), Jurassic Park has become one of the most important franchises in the history of cinema. With its unique combination of dinosaurs and adventure, the film won over audiences of all ages and laid the foundation for a cinematic universe that would transcend generations.
Now, Universal Pictures, is preparing another Jurassic World movie. As for the plot, the company hasn't revealed much yet. For the moment, we know that the movie will mark the beginning of a “new Jurassic era” and that we won't see the characters played by Dallas Howard and Pratt again. However, it is official that David Koepp, the original screenwriter of Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), wrote the script for the new installment. This hints at the possibility of a fresh and exciting approach that could take the franchise down unexplored paths, while maintaining the essence that made Jurassic Park a legend of adventure and science fiction cinema.
Gareth Edwards will direct the film. The director already has experience in big franchises, having directed The Creator, Godzilla, and also ventured into the Star Wars universe with the spin-off Rogue One. With a track record of success in the sci-fi and action genre, Edwards appears to be a promising choice to take the next installment of Jurassic World forward. In addition, the filmmaker will executive produce alongside Spielberg.
Regarding the cast, there are big names that would be involved in this new project. The one that stands out the most is Scarlett Johansson, sharing the screen with her will be Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey and Manuel García-Rulfo.
Production should begin in the coming weeks, as the new franchise will star on July 2, 2025.
