The cast of The Fantastic Four is expanding beyond its main characters and main villain. According to a recent report, the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe project from director Matt Shakman has added actress Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) to its ranks in a currently undisclosed role.
Lyonne joins a cast that includes Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Deadly Sentence) as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm, Julia Garner in the role of Shalla-Bal, an incarnation of Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
Technically, this won't be Natasha Lyonne's first time in a superhero movie. She previously voiced the character of Merton in the Warner Bros. and DC animated film DC League of Super-Pets. In turn, Lyonne not only starred in but also co-created Russian Doll, the Netflix series that has so far run for two seasons. The performer has also been part of the comedies American Pie and Scary Movie, as well as the TV productions Orange is The New Black and Poker Face.
Although details of the plot of Fantastic Four are scarce, it has been revealed that the story will be set in the 1960s and that it will have Galactus as its main villain. In a previous interview, its director said about the film: “It's different in many ways. I wish I could say more. But we're doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from a cinematic approach that really fits the material. But I think it's going to be different than anything you've seen before, and certainly different than anything you've seen before at Marvel.”
The Four Fantastic will probably hit theaters one year later on July 25, 2025.
