Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard is now a member for the fourth season of Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, according to Variety. The French actress will appear alongside Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, who have starred since the show's inception. In fact, the fourth season of The Morning Show will see Cotillard play Celine Dumont, described as “a savvy operator in a storied European family.” The series, which has been renewed ahead of the airing of its third season, has boasted a notable cast that includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Jon Hamm and Nicole Beharie.
Cotillard, known for her award-winning performance in La Vie en Rose which won her a Best Actress Oscar in 2008, and her 2015 nomination for Two Days, One Night, has a predominantly film career. Other notable roles in her filmography include Brother and Sister, From the Land of the Moon, Macbeth, Midnight in Paris, The Dark Knight Rise and Inception. “This will be one of the few television roles Cotillard has played in her career,” reports Variety.
The series opens with the misconduct scandal surrounding Mitch Kessler, played by Steve Carell, a popular news anchor. His co-anchor, Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston), struggles to maintain her position amidst the media storm and the changes shaking the newsroom. Bradley Jackson (played by Reese Witherspoon) takes a central role as co-anchor, an unexpected decision made to avoid replacing the main protagonist before a scandal erupts.
Also, among the issues addressed are power, corruption, workplace harassment and the struggle for truth. The Morning Show not only stays on the surface, but delves into the personal and professional implications of each character, showing the difficulties faced by women in leadership positions.
