One of the most popular killers of the last decades returns to the small screen with a new series. After eight seasons and a revival, Paramount+ and Showtime have launched Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel that will address the origin story of Dexter Morgan, a character previously played by Michael C. Hall. The new series, which was previously announced as Dexter: Origins, will begin filming in the coming months and is beginning to confirm the first cast members. The companies recently revealed that Shadow and Bone's Patrick Gibson will take on the lead role as a young Dexter Morgan, while Golden Globe winner Christian Slater will play his adoptive father. Now it is official that actress Sarah Michelle Gellar will also be part of the series.
According to the press release, the actress who became an icon of the nineties thanks to her performance in Buffy the Vampire Slayer will play Tanya Martin. This character will be Dexter Morgan's new boss and will play an essential role in the Miami Metropolitan Police Department. According to its synopsis, Dexter: Original Sin will take place some 15 years before the main series and will follow Dexter as he evolves from a student to a serial killer guided by a moral code. As he confronts his growing bloodlust, he learns to channel his violent impulses under the tutelage of his adoptive father. However, his internal struggle unfolds when he begins a forensic internship with the Miami Police Department, adding a layer of complexity to his double life.
The series will feature the return of Clyde Phillips. This production will have a first installment consisting of 10 episodes that will be available through Showtime and Paramount+.
