After his consecration in 2016 thanks to his acclaimed work in Manchester by the Sea, Casey Affleck returns to center stage with The Instigators, a new film from Apple Original Films. The Oscar-winning actor had to retire from the industry after two former female co-stars sued him for sexual harassment. Although the allegations were in 2010, after winning the Oscar the performer had a greater exposure, which made the Justice and the media put the eye on the allegations, canceling it for years.
In fact, the actor's career was on hold and he only participated in three films as an actor and one as a director between 2017 and 2023; this film being his return to commercial cinema. Along with Matt Damon, close friend of his older brother, Ben Affleck, and for whom he got his consecrating role after the actor's rejection of the role in Manchester by the Sea due to conflicts with his agenda; Casey seeks redemption and a new opportunity in the industry that would not be entirely willing to open the doors for him again.
"Rory (Damon) and Cobby (Affleck) were made by force: a desperate father and an ex-con team up to pull off a heist of a corrupt politician's ill-gotten gains. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by the police, but also by backward bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their minds, they convince Rory's therapist (Hong Chau) to join their wild escapade through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture, or worse," reads the official synopsis of the film, which hits theaters in the U.S. on August 2.
