The story takes place prior to the events narrated in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, taking viewers back to a legendary era. In this period, the plot features the rise of great kingdoms and powerful characters. The greatest villain created by Tolkien, whose threat will profoundly influence the future, attempts to plunge the world into an era of darkness and terror.

The first installment of the series was watched by more than 100 million people worldwide, with 25 million global viewers on its first day, setting the record for the biggest premiere in the platform's history. Due to its success, Prime Video renewed the project for a second season.
