Camila Mendes to star in Amazon MGM's Masters of the Universe

Camila Mendes will star alongside the long-confirmed Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You), who will play He-Man in this adaptation of the popular Masters of the Universe toy brand that took the 1980s by storm, as first reported The Hollywood Reporter. Travis Knight, founder of stop-motion animation studio Laika and director of Kubo and the Two Strings, will helm the film.

As for this moment, screenplay details are under wraps, but it is possibly going to revolve around the character of Prince Adam of Eternia, who, thanks to his Sword of Power, transforms into the muscular He-Man, acquiring superhuman strength and abilities. With the assistance of his allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.

Teela, Camila Mendes' character, is the captain of the royal guard and the adopted daughter of Man-at-Arms, the royal family's weapons inventor. In the animated series, Teela has on occasion suspected that Prince Adam is actually the heroic He-Man and has become his romantic interest.

Chris Butler is writing the script, building upon earlier drafts by David Callaham and the Nee brothers, Aaron and Adam. Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing the film, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026. Furthermore, landing this key role in a high-profile, big-budget production is a major accomplishment for Camila Mendes, who auditioned for the role two weeks ago.
