Child Star is going to offer a raw and unflinching look at the often-hidden perils of child stardom and all the danger and consequences that come with it. Wrote and directed by singer and former Disney child herself, Demi Lovato, marking her first directorial project. Through intimate interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, Lovato delves into the personal struggles she and her coworkers went through as young celebrities, providing a honest perspective on the mental health challenges that can arise when fame is thrust upon someone just being a child. We already saw something similar this year with MAX's "Quiet on Set" where multiple former Nickelodeon stars spoke openly about their experiences.
Yesterday, Hulu released the trailer for Child Star, showing glimpses of actress Drew Barrymore (The Drew Barrymore Show), well known for her problematic childhood and early access to a world of addiction of substances, Raven Symone (That's so Raven) and Allison Stoner, former Demi's Camp Rock comate. Addionally, her guests include Kenan Thompson (Kenan and Kell), Christina Richie (The Adams Family) and dancer Jojo Siwa. The promotional spot showcases these celebrities sharing their experiences of growing up in the spotlight.
Moreover, Demi Lovato's childhood and adolescence were full of lights, dressing rooms, film sets, but also by addiction, abuse and struggling with her mental health. Her first television appearance was in 2002, when she was only 10 years old. From then on, she began a career as a child actress, which turned her into a Disney Channel star. Nevertheless, not everything is a field of roses, as child fame often bring serious mental health issues due to the exposure and pression. Hulu will debut the documentary on Tuesday, September 17th.
