Gladiator II is steadily approaching its November theatrical release, generating excitement among fans. The plot take us several decades after the events of the acclaimed Gladiator by Ridley Scott, who returns as director. The lead role is played by Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People, All of Us Strangers), giving life to the adult version of Lucius, a role that was played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original installment. Now, the latest addition to Paramount Pictures' marketing campaign is a new official trailer and poster.
Jumping forward two decades, the sequel centers on Lucius (Mescal), the grandson of the former Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. Following a Roman invasion on the hands of General Marcus Aurelius (Pascal) that ensnares his family in slavery, Lucius, takes inspiration on the legendary gladiator Maximus (Crowe), sets out on his own path of vengeance in the gladiatorial arena. Furthermore, rounding out the stellar cast are Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Emperor Geta, Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus, Thelma) as Emperor Caracalla, Rory McCann (Game of Thrones), Matt Lucas (Wonka). Moreover, some returning cast members include Connie Nielsen as Lucilla and Sir Derek Jacobi as Gracchus.
Gladiator (2000), the Oscar-winning epic from Ridley Scott, traced the journey of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe), a former general betrayed and enslaved, as he fought for freedom against the oppressive rule of the murderous emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). In fact, several members of the original film's behind-the-scenes crew have returned for the sequel, including cinematographer John Mathieson, production designer Arthur Max, as well as costume designer Janty Yates. In addition, the original film also won Best Direction and Best Actor for Russel Crowe.
