Project Hail Mary is the story of a man who wakes up with amnesia, only to realize he is now on a desperate mission to save Earth. Stranded 12 light-years away, he must use his scientific knowledge and ingenuity to survive and find a way home. The film stars Oscar Winners Sandra Huller (The Zone of Interest/Anatomy of a Fall) and Ryan Goslin (La la land/Barbie). Under the direction of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the film follows Gosling as a former schoolteacher who wakes up on a spaceship, his memory completely wiped. He gradually regains his memories, learning that he has been sent on a critical mission to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years away. His goal: to reverse a cosmic event threatening to plunge Earth into an Ice Age.
In fact, the official logline for the movie reads: Project Hail Mary, filmed for IMAX, adapts Andy Weir's novel (author of The Martian), set in the near future. Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a former schoolteacher turned astronaut. Grace awakens from a coma, alone on a space station, with no memory of his identity or mission. As his memory slowly returns, he realizes he is currently at the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years from Earth, to reverse a space event that has plunged our planet into an early Ice Age, then, with his scientific knowledge and ingenuity, Grace must complete his mission. But he may not be as alone as he thinks. In addition, Project Hail Mary also stars Milana Vayntrub and James Ortiz as the puppeteer of Rocky, an alien Ryland encounters. Finally, the film arrives to theaters on March 20, 2026 by Amazon MGM.
