Phil Dunster, known for his breakout role as Jamie Tartt in the hit Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," will star opposite Steve Carell (The Morning Show/The Office) in an upcoming HBO comedy series. This exciting new project marks a significant step forward for Dunster, who has captivated audiences with his portrayal of the talented but troubled footballer. The series, set on a college campus, centers on an author's (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter. Scrubs collaborators Lawrence and Tarses wrote the premiere episode and executive produce alongside Carell, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer of Doozer Productions. Doozer produces the series in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence's Doozer banner and Tarses are under overall deals.
Back in May, HBO ordered a 10-episode, straight-to-series comedy. The half-hour, single-camera project reunites Dunster with Lawrence, who previously collaborated on the hit Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," where Dunster starred in all three seasons. For his performance in this show, Dunster received an Emmy nomination in 2023 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, he then appeared in the second season of Apple's psychological thriller "Surface" which second season, by the way, is scheduled to premiere in 2025. In adittion, his additional TV credits include Prime Video's "The Devil's Hour" the British remake of "Call My Agent" titled "Ten Percent" ITV's "The Trouble With Maggie Cole" HBO's miniseries "Catherine The Great" and Amazon's "Catastrophe."
Likewise, Phil Dunster recently made his directorial debut with "Idiomatic" a short film he wrote, produced, and starred in alongside Kerry Godliman. Premiering at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "Idiomatic" recently won Best Comic Distortions at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival Shorts Spotlight.
