Television icon Carol Vorderman has revealed she spent months in agonizing pain before doctors diagnosed her with chronic rheumatoid arthritis.
The debilitating health issue forced the former Countdown star to take a break from her professional duties earlier this year.
Speaking publicly about her health struggles, the 64-year-old explained the condition struck with shocking speed.
Carol described the onset of symptoms as "sudden and chronic," stating, "I literally would lie on the floor crying for a day and I couldn't move my shoulder."
Vorderman recounted how the agony persisted for months as her medical team worked diligently to identify the correct course of treatment.
She even temporarily stepped down from her popular radio show due to burnout, which she realized preceded the debilitating physical pain.
Carol confirmed she has since found effective relief.
She noted she endured months of being on and off steroids while medical professionals trialed different medications.
"Now I’m on the right ones and now I’ve been off steroids for three months," she shared.
Carol credits the NHS, specifically the team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, for their "magnificent" support during her recovery.
Now feeling significantly better, Vorderman emphasizes how the health scare shifted her perspective. She described this year as her "happiest" in spite of the medical challenges.
Carol has actively changed her lifestyle, prioritizing her social life and spending time with friends.
She stated the experience felt like an "intervention," prompting her to slow down after years of being a self-professed workaholic.
