Emilia Clarke has revealed she suffered a painful physical injury while filming her new spy thriller, Ponies.
During an interview with TheWrap alongside co-star Haley Lu Richardson, Clarke shared that she "broke a rib" during a particularly grueling day of filming sex scenes.
The actress explained that the sequence involved her character being intimate with three different men over several hours. Emilia
Clarke joked that when her doctor asked how the injury occurred, she was perfectly honest, telling him it was "Sex! Times three!"
Despite the initial headline-grabbing claim, Clarke clarified that the bone didn't fully snap but rather "popped out a little bit."
Her co-star Haley Lu Richardson confirmed the incident, affectionately describing Clarke as having a "tiny little sensitive body" that couldn't quite handle the intensity of the day's "make-out" sessions.
Richardson also recalled seeing the "parade of men" leaving the set looking exhausted after their scenes with Emilia Clarke, further highlighting the physical demands of the production.
Ponies, which premiered on Peacock on January 15, 2026, marks a major departure for Clarke from her fantasy roots.
The series takes place in 1977 Moscow and follows two American women, Bea (Clarke) and Twila (Richardson), whose lives change forever after their CIA-agent husbands die in a mysterious plane crash.
Refusing to return to the U.S. without answers, the two widows convince the CIA to let them stay as operatives.
The title refers to "Persons Of No Interest," a term for undercover agents the enemy would never suspect.
The series blends intense espionage with moments of humor and racy romantic drama.
Emilia Clarke’s character, Bea, is an over-educated Russian speaker who must use her wits—and occasionally her charms—to infiltrate the KGB.
Critics have praised the chemistry between Clarke and Richardson, noting that their "buddy-cop" dynamic brings a fresh energy to the Cold War genre.
Although the filming process physically taxed Emilia Clarke, she assured fans that her rib has almost fully healed as the show begins its successful run on streaming.
