Kate Beckinsale is to star in the new Amazon TV thriller "The Widow".
The 44-year-old actress has been added to the cast of the eight-episode drama, which is to be written and produced by "The Missing" and "Fleabag" brothers Harry and Jack Williams.
In a joint statement announcing Kate's casting, the Williams brothers said: "Kate Beckinsale is a brilliantly talented actress and we're thrilled she's joining us on this journey - we couldn't imagine anyone more perfect for the role.
""The Widow" is our most ambitious and cinematic piece to date and we can't wait to bring the dark heart of the Congolese jungle to the screen."
Kate is poised to play the part of Georgia Wells, who has distanced herself from her previous life and is a completely different woman to who she once was.
Georgia is forced to face the harshness of her reality when she sees has late husband on the news.
As the story progresses, Georgia goes into the depths of the African Congo, where she encounters danger every step of the way.
The show will premiere on ITV in the UK and on Amazon Prime Video in the US, with production poised to begin later this month in South Africa, Wales and the Netherlands.
Kate has a long-standing working relationship with Amazon, having previously starred in "The Only Living Boy in New York" and the comedy "Love & Friendship".
However, the upcoming series will mark the brunette beauty's first scripted series regular role, after spending the bulk of her career to date working in the movie business.
