The Crown and Line of Duty lead BAFTA TV nods

Share article:

"The Crown", "Line of Duty", "Three Girls" and "Black Mirror" lead the Virgin TV BAFTA nominations with three nods each.

The Netflix royal series will do battle with the BBC's police procedural programme in the Drama category, alongside "Peaky Blinders" and "The End Of The F***Ing World", and The Crown's Claire Foy is up for Leading Actor for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth.

The 33-year-old actress will go up against "Three Girls" star Molly Windsor and Line of Duty's Thandie Newton as well as Sinead Keenan from "Little Boy Blue".

"The Crown" and "Three Girls" also have a nod in the Supporting Actress category through Vanessa Kirby and Liv Hill, but they will face stiff competition from Broken's Anna Friel and "Broadchurch" star Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Anna's co-star Sean Bean is up for Leading Actor against Jack Rowan ("Born to Kill"), Hang the DJ's Joe Cole and Tim Pigott-Smith from "King Charles III".

As well as nods in the Drama section and for Thandie, Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar will be hoping to make it a hat-trick for the show when he takes on Brían F. O'Byrne ("Little Boy Blue"), Jimmi Simpson ("Black Mirror") and The Boy with the Topknot's Anupam Kher for the Supporting Actor gong.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have received two nods for the Entertainment Programme award with their "Saturday Night Takeaway" show doing battle with "Britain's Got Talent", which they also host.

Dec had to host last weekend's "Saturday Night Takeaway" alone just days after Ant took some time off after he was charged with drink driving.

The presenting duo will be hoping to beat "The Voice" and "Michael McIntyre's Big Show" to the gong.

BBC drama "Three Girls" will be aiming to pick up a third win of the night at the star-studded ceremony - which will be held at the Royal Festival Hall on May 13 and hosted by Sue Perkins - in the Mini-Series category.

"Howards End", "The Moorside" and "The State" stand in the way of the show, which was based on the true stories of victims of grooming and sexual abuse in Rochdale.

Stormzy's surprise appearance on "Love Island" is up for sponsor Virgin TV's Must-See Moment, but the rapper will do battle with a time-traveller when he goes up against Jodie Whittaker being revealed as the Thirteenth Doctor - the first Time Lord played by a woman - in "Doctor Who".

Ariana Grande's emotional performance of "One Last Time" at the One Love Manchester concert - a benefit gig put on by the singer following a bombing at her Manchester Arena show two weeks earlier - and Viserion being killed by the Night King in "Game of Thrones" also has a nod.
