Anthony Wong Chau-Sang was born to a British father and a Chinese mother. He never knew his father, since the man left his family when Wong was four years old.

He trained acting at ATV and later enrolled into the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

After working in several TV Series, he shot to stardom with hits such as "Hard-Boiled" and his Golden Horse-winning performance in the horrific "The Untold Story." He later appeared in the "Young and Dangerous" films as Dai Fei, a friend to Ekin Cheng's Ho Nam.

In 1995, he made his directorial debut with New Tenant. He won his second Hong Kong Film Award for his role as the corrupt police officer Tung in the critically acclaimed "Beast Cops" (1998).
