Sir Simon Russell Beale returns to the stage in Liberace, the flamboyant pianist at the centre of Martin Sherman’s new play, I’ll Be Seeing You
Directed by Alan Cumming and Ben Occhipinti, the production sets Liberace’s carefully guarded public image against a younger gay writer, played by Fra Fee
Beale relishes the glittering costumes and theatrical entrances, while the script lurches between wit, sentimentality and vulgarity
The result is uneven, but his return remains a welcome piece of theatrical sparkle.
