Judi Dench challenges the rise of theatre trigger warnings

Dame Judi Dench has criticised what she sees as the growing use of trigger warnings in theatres, arguing that performances should unsettle and challenge audiences rather than shield them from difficult themes

The 91-year-old actress supports practical notices for strobe lighting, gunshots and children’s age limits, but believes broader advisories can become excessive

Dench also rejects retirement talk and says she has no intention of stepping away from acting

Living with age-related macular degeneration, she now learns scripts by listening to friends and colleagues read them aloud, allowing her to continue working despite being unable to read normally.
