The BBC has paused DIY SOS after 27 years as it seeks to reduce spending by £500 million
The programme, presented by Nick Knowles, will not stage its usual Children in Need Big Build this year
Instead, producers South Shore are preparing a cheaper spin-off, DIY SOS Rebuilt My Life, revisiting successful home transformations
The decision has reportedly upset the production team and volunteers, who donate time and materials to help families facing illness or disability
The original series began in 1999 before becoming The Big Build in 2010
Other BBC cancellations include Football Focus, Blankety Blank and Live at the Apollo.
