A dispute has surfaced over the stage adaptation of Yesterday, with screenwriter Jack Barth accusing Richard Curtis and Emma Freud of marginalising his role in the Beatles-inspired story
Barth says he developed the original screenplay, Cover Version, about a musician who alone remembers the band’s songs
Although the 2019 film awarded him a joint story credit, Curtis received sole screenplay billing
Barth claims he was not consulted during the musical’s development and expects only a fixed payment, rather than profits
The production, directed by Danny Boyle, has secured permission to use Beatles songs
Representatives have been approached for comment.
