The Somme: The First 24 Hours

We follow five ordinary fellows, from the northern British city of Sheffield, on their journey of the first day of the Battle of the Somme. But these are no regular soldiers.

These were the men of Kitchener's famous Volunteer Army - the pals and chums battalions of patriotic young men from the same villages, towns and cities who joined up in 1914 to fight together for king and country.
