World War II soldiers Slicker Smith and Herbie Brown return home from the Army with a precious smuggled souvenir-Evey, a little orphan girl they are determined to place in a loving home.

However, they must tread carefully, as their fiery sergeant, now a cop, is hot on their trail. Their attempts to find Evey a suitable home lead police and immigration officials on a wild cross-country race.
