This 1940 feature version of "The Lone Ranger" 1938 serial, shows the 1st live depiction of the Ranger. Captain Mark Smith of the Confederate Army (masquerading as Col Jefferies) leads a band of deserters to conquer Texas & rule it as a dictator.

The Texas Rangers that are sent to investigate are ambushed, but one survives. He is nursed back to health by Tonto & swears to avenge the massacre.
