Marty Pilletti, (Rod Steiger) is a 36 year-old butcher who lives with his mother.

His brothers & sisters are all married and his dear mother - along with several other of her friends - is always asking him why he doesn't find a nice girl & get married.

However, he has low esteem & feels no one wants him...That all changes at a dance where he meets Clara, (Nancy Marchand, of "The Sopranos" fame).
