Through commerce and conquests the Romans had come into contact with Greek art early in their cultural development. The Romans took what they found pleasing from Greek art and adapted it to Roman purposes in sculpture and architecture. But with the discovery of cement, the Romans were soon able to build structures beyond the dreams of even the Greeks. A lecture by W. J.

Neidinger.
