In 326 A.D., Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, Emperor of Rome, embarks on the first pilgrimage ever made to the Holy Land to atone for her son's great sin.

Helena struggles to fulfill her solemn promise to find the holy places touched by Jesus, and to build churches there to honor her Lord and God.
