Taking on the roles of Gabriela, Ricky and the rest of the original characters are Nini, a rising star fresh out of theater camp; Ricky, Nini’s skateboarding ex-boyfriend who joins the theater department to win her back; E.J., Nini’s posh and easy-on-the-eyes new love interest; and Gina, the ambitious new transfer student with skeletons in her closet and theater in her bones. Performing new material and remakes of classic HSM songs, these aspiring actors from East High are determined to bring their version of High School Musical to the stage, along with all the real-life drama that wasn’t in the original script!

For the first time, East High will stage "High School Musical: The Musical," and you're invited to sing along! East High junior, Nini, is ready to play Gabriela. Her new boyfriend, EJ, a total Troy, can't wait to audition with her. The only problem, her ex, Ricky, is suddenly into musicals and new student, Gina is chasing the Gabriela role. Looks like the "Start of Something New!"
Miss Jenn realizes the cast needs to get their heads in the game, so she moves up the rehearsal of a pivotal scene. Insecure about his relationship with Nini, EJ hatches a plan to get more intel. Meanwhile, Ricky struggles at rehearsal and questions his commitment after Nini questions his motives. And YOU will be there sing along with Nini and Ashlyn on a new song called "Wondering."
You can bet on it, trouble is brewing. After "losing" her phone and missing an important rehearsal, Nini blames Gina for her bad luck and retaliates. EJ confronts Ricky about a heartfelt voicemail left for Nini, and Mr. Mazzara becomes suspicious of Miss Jenn's past. But the biggest twist will be YOU singing along with the cast on "Stick to the Status Quo!" Thanks, on-screen lyrics!
Turns out Nini hasn't found what she's been looking for with EJ and confronts him about her missing phone. Ricky's parents drop a bombshell leaving him completely shook. Meanwhile, Gina schemes to claim the role of Gabriella, forming a plan that will require EJ's help. Andyou're ready to sing along with the on-screen lyrics in this episode, right?
It's Homecoming and everyone's here for it. Almost everyone. Nini and Kourtney decide to ditch the dance for a much-needed girl's night. Meanwhile, who's that on EJ's arm? Carlos finds the courage to dance alone while Kourtney gives Nini a confidence boost at karaoke when she sings the HSM classic "Born to be Brave." And you can join her with sing-along lyrics on your screen!
After being put on a temporary suspension, Miss Jenn is forced to leave Carlos in charge of the show. Rehearsal turns into a disaster when Carlos lets it slip that Miss Jenn could lose her job, bringing the cast together to help save her job and the show. And you'll grab a nearby mic or hairbrush and join in for "When There Was Me and You" with on-screen, sing-along lyrics!
