Maria, a simple and beautiful country woman, decides to leave her family and her town to look for a better life in the city. There she meets Alejandro, a rebellious and womanizing medical student, with whom she falls madly in love.
Maria arrives in the city and Pina finds her a job as a maid in a house. Cristobal is fired from the school due to the envy of another teacher. Maria rides a horse and it gets out of control. Alejandro saves Maria and they both fall in love immediately.
Alejandro kisses Maria during their first date. Maria tells Alejandro that she is in love with him. Maria and Alejandro surrender to passion. Pina introduces Maria to Cristobal and he offers to give her free classes.
Vanessa makes a scene of jealousy to Alejandro for seeing him with Maria. Pina scolds Maria for giving herself to Alejandro. Vanessa finds out that Alejandro has failed many subjects and threatens to tell Adolfo about it.
Maria faints in Cristobal's arms. Maria goes to the doctor after fainting and discovers she is pregnant. Maria gives Alejandro the news of her pregnancy; he tells her that he doesn't want children yet.
Maria assures Alejandro she never wants to see him again. Pina goes to Alejandro's house to confront him, Adolfo sees them and finds out everything. Adolfo warns Alejandro he will leave him penniless if he keeps seeing Maria.
