Chief Inspector Michael Jericho investigates the murder of a young black man shot dead in a Notting Hill neighborhood full of racial tension. The same night, Sir Nicholas Wellesley is kidnapped outside his gentleman’s club. Could the two crimes be connected?
The morning after their wedding, the bodies of what appear to be running champion Johnny Swan and his wife, West End dancer Lizzie Way, are discovered in their hotel room. But Jericho finds that the crime scene is not all that it seems, and the case expands to include Russian spies, gangsters, and a link to Jericho’s past.
When a hydrogen bomb scientist is found strangled with newspaper in his mouth and lipstick on his neck, Jericho and his team debate whether the murder was a political assassination or a crime of passion. Meanwhile, Jericho’s relationship with Juliette draws ire from the assistant commissioner.
