Newlyweds George Papadapolis and Katherine Calder-Young Papadapolis return from their Greek cruise to find they are the only living guardians of Webster Long.
When Webster goes out for the local pee wee football team, Katherine is worried he’ll get hurt because of his size. George assures her that no coach would put a kid on a team if he was going to get badly hurt.
After her energetic attempt to share Swan Lake with Webster seems to bore him, Katherine is convinced he doesn’t like her. Meanwhile, Webster’s best friend Melanie is certain her parents don’t love her anymore because of their new baby. After talking to Webster, she decides that running away will solve her problem.
Katherine becomes worried that she and George are not the right parents for Webster. George knows they are and explains why Travis, Webster’s late father, chose them.
When budget cuts force Webster’s school to slash their arts and sports programs, Katherine and George decide to volunteer as teachers. Unfortunately, Katherine’s art class goes over the children’s heads, and Webster helps the class cheat on their first test.
