Informer 3838 tells the story of the dangerous double life of Nicola Gobbo, the youngest female barrister in Victorian history who informed to the police on the very gangland criminals she was defending.
After being caught up in a drug bust at her share house as a young, promising law student, Nicola Gobbo’s entire career path is about to blow up in her face. So, Nicola cuts a deal with the cops to keep her record clean.
When Dale is arrested, he begs Nicola to represent him. Nicola refuses, but becomes his confidante, and acts as a go between for Dale and Carl Williams.
Nicola is shocked at the deaths of Terry and Christine, and the ruthless way in which they were disposed. And even more so when Williams cuts a deal, claiming he knows who organized the killing.
Nicola can either give evidence of what Williams has told her, or risk being charged over withholding evidence. The shift from informer to witness almost guarantees she will be exposed as a rat. Victoria Police urge Nicola to enter witness protection.
