Series from 2018
Three couples have decided to make a drastic change and embark on the journey to a simpler way of life. Zack and Lauren thought they wanted the typical American dream complete with a big home and white picket fence, however as life gets more hectic they realize they need to switch up their priorities. The couple buys a plot of land in Ohio and begin building a house in the hopes of achieving an off-the-grid and self-sustainable lifestyle. In Missouri, Cody and Chelsea are tired of constantly working, only to have all their money go to childcare. The couple worries that their kids are addicted to electronics and hope that moving forty miles away to a tiny home will bring the family closer. In Los Angeles, green living expert Robert and his girlfriend, Victoria want to start a future together by building a container home. However, Victoria needs a bit more convincing in order to move forward on their off-the-grid journey as a couple.
Green living expert, Robert may have convinced his actress girlfriend, Victoria that a more efficient lifestyle is the right decision for them, but she's still concerned that it may not be best when it comes to her career, or her pocketbook. In Ohio, Zack, Lauren and their kids are loving life under one tire house roof together. The family may already be adept at a more self-sustained kind of living, but they need running water and power to move beyond camping inside their own house. Missouri couple, Chelsea and Cody try to enjoy their last moments together before moving off-the-grid but Chelsea has doubts that she can handle the dramatic change their family is about to go through.
Construction at Chelsea and Cody's tiny house is underway but things aren't going as planned. Issues arise that put them behind schedule and potentially way over budget. Robert and Victoria are five days from closing on their new property and to celebrate, they take Robert's daughters camping on the new land. In Ohio, progress is being made on Zack and Lauren's tire house, but they still don't have running water.
Chelsea and Cody are finally making progress on their farmland tiny home when a storm threatens to leave the family without a roof over their heads. Weathering this challenge will take every ounce of faith the young couple has in one another. In Ohio, Zack and Lauren begin to show signs of buckling under pressure, especially Zack who is carrying the bulk of the build on his shoulders as the family prepares to move from a camping tent into proper rooms within their tire house. Tensions rise between Robert and Victoria over the earth shattering geological report that lead to their second failed land search.
Lauren and Zac's plan to finish the tire house in time for winter is put in jeopardy after Zac gets into a bit of legal trouble. Robert and Victoria have finally closed on a piece of land for their new container home and after a big surprise in Hawaii, the couple decides to live off-grid in an RV until they receive all the necessary approvals and permits to begin their build. Cody and Chelsea must move out of the guest cabin and into their new tiny home, but it's not exactly move-in ready. On top of it all, unwelcome house pests and constant arguing has put a strain on their relationship.
The stress of this journey has finally caught up with all three families. Ohio couple, Lauren and Zac must find a way to rise above Zac's recent legal trouble in order to complete their tire home by winter. Things are literally heating up for Robert and Victoria now that the Southern California drought is threatening to destroy their off-grid dream as wild fires surround the new property where they plan to build their container home. In Missouri, Cody and Chelsea can't seem to get along for more than a few minutes, even when friends and family arrive to their freshly finished tiny home to celebrate Carina's second birthday. With their marriage on the line, Cody and Chelsea seek help from an old friend to find happiness in their new 380 square foot life.
