Hubert Durieux, a banker in a small provincial town, devotes what little free time he has to his ex-wife, Brigitte, his daughter, Florence, and his mistress, Elsa.
One day his car gets stolen by a young and attractive gipsy, Mona. Even though the car gets quickly returned to him, the banker finds himself further involved with the mischievous girl.
