It is the year 2030, and the stage is the capital of Japan, Chou-Tokyo. Through "Buddyfight", humans have started cultural interactions with residents from other worlds called "Affinity Dimensions".
Buddyfight is a game with selected humans as the "Buddyfighter", and residents from the other world as the partner (known as "Buddy Monster").
When Gao Mikado opens a card package during writing class he gets a Buddy Rare Card called Drum Bunker Dragon. Gao and Drum Buddy up and get ready for Future Card battles!
With the help of Baku Omori, a deck builder, and data analyst, Kuguru Uki, Gao gets a deck which he can fight with called "Dragon Blast Fury". At the prestigious fighting stage of Aibo Academy, Gao takes on Tasuku and his Buddy Monster, Jackknife Dragon.
Forced to find a practice partner, Gao picks an unlikely opponent for his next Buddyfight. During the battle, an unexpected Buddy Monster arrives leaving everyone spellbound. Later, Gao upsets Drum and he threatens to reject Gao as his Buddy for good.
Gao's new friend, Kiri, learns about Buddyfighting, and takes part in an electrifying training session. Drum forgives Gao and helps him out of a tricky situation. The mysterious Buddyfighter Rouga reveals a dark power that may change Buddyfighting forever.
Gao wanders off from his class during a fieldtrip and discovers something amazing. Drum learns that he can't win every battle. Tasuku Ryuenji clashes with the villainous Buddyfighter Wolf, and realizes he needs some top-secret, Buddy Police technology.
Rouga's thirst for revenge takes him down an unexpected path. Baku puts his faith in Gao, and offers him a special gift. Gao temporarily loses sight of who he really is and takes an obsession too far without considering the consequences of his actions.
