Karen, who vanished from the hospital, was found dead by suicide, and a black man's body was discovered in Danny's van. The Metropolitan Police avoided responsibility, and DI John was removed from the investigation. Suspecting something was amiss, he sought Anne's cooperation and offered to continue the investigation to uncover the truth.
While investigating Karen's death, new information emerges about James Taylor, prompting DI John and Ann to begin questioning him. Meanwhile, Danny remains missing. The police question Jeff and his wife, Sandra, who own Danny's van, but there is no evidence to detain them, so DI John releases them and decides to keep an eye on them.
