American Flyer was always Avis to Lionel's Hertz. Lionel outsold American Flyer, not because their trains were better, but because their marketing was better.

But that doesn't bother the many "Flyer guys" today who run and collect American Flyer trains and who still insist their trains are the best, mainly because Flyer trains ran on two-rail track, just like real trains.
