\'Coronation Street\' are to kill off a character next week.
The ITV soap have confirmed they will do away with Tyrone Dobbs\' (Alan Halsall) mother Jackie Dobbs - who was portrayed by Margi Clarke in two stints in the late 90s and late 00s - when the police arrive at the mechanic\'s door to let him known the devastating news.
A post on Corrie\'s official website reads: "Tyrone is shocked when there is a knock at the door and it\'s the police.
"How will Tyrone react when the police officer reveals that his mum, Jackie, has died?"
Tyrone will no doubt be devastated about the loss of his mother, who last appeared on screen in Weatherfield in March 2010, despite their chequered history.
Her last major storyline saw her return to the cobbles in 2008 to support Tyrone after his wife Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) left him.
But she returned to her mischievous ways and he ended up throwing Jackie out when she told Tyrone that Molly was robbing his house, when she was just packing a bag to leave.
The plan backfired on Jackie because Tyrone felt sorry for Molly, opting to throw his mum out instead.
Despite some of Jackie\'s actions, including being convicted of Actual Bodily Harm, Margi has previously insisted her character wasn\'t quite as bad as some might say.
She said: "I don\'t think she\'s vile - there\'s definitely a heart beating in Jackie. She has an obvious intelligence but she\'s not had opportunities in life and has made some mistakes.
"She\'s a born survivor but doesn\'t know how to play straight."
Jackie was introduced in March 1998 as the cellmate of Deirdre Rachid (Anne Kirkbride).
Deirdre was wrongfully imprisoned for fraud, which prompted the nationwide \'Free the Weatherfield One\' campaign, which was debated in Parliament, after she was framed by her boyfriend Jon Lindsay (Owen Aaronovitch). Jackie was in prison as a result of her ABH conviction.
