Dr. Alex George has pleaded with people not to go to "pubs, clubs and bars" amid the coronavirus pandemic, and said avoiding them will "save lives".
The former \'Love Island\' star has begged people to take such advice "seriously" in an attempt to help stop the spread of the virus, which has rocked the world and killed nearly 9,000 people.
He said: "Patients who are becoming very unwell are requiring a lot of help and support.
"And we\'re seeing that number grow. Please take it seriously, especially when it comes to listening to our advice when comes to self-isolation, not going to pubs, clubs and bars.
"It really makes a difference and ultimately, will save lives.
"It\'s so important."
But the 30-year-old doctor, who works in the Accident and Emergency department at University Hospital, Lewisham, south London, admitted medics are "grateful" for the public only going to A&E unless they "really need to".
Speaking on \'Good Morning Britain\', he added: "As this issue develops in the country and we have more and more people coming into A&E, we have to make sure we have enough supplies, having enough ventilators, having the equipment we need so we can treat the patients.
"What we\'re grateful for is the public are listening to us when we\'re saying please don\'t come to A&E unless you really need to."
Yesterday (18.03.20), Alex said the NHS won\'t be able to "cope" if four in five people are diagnosed with coronavirus.
He said: "I\'ve been testing around eight patients a shift - and the NHS can easily cope with that level, but if we start seeing 50 or 60 a day, the pressure will be on.
"If over the next six months, one in five people have it we can deal with it. But if four in five people catch it, the NHS simply can\'t cope."
