Love Island UK has received more than 30,000 complaints
Over the last week.
This is all due to two challenges that the public
Considered to be "misleading" and "unnecessary"
Moreover, the public thinks that those challenges could harm the mental well-being
Of the contestants.
First, there was the "Casa amor postcard"
In which the contestant was all separated
And the production showed false videos of the guys being unfaithful to the girls.
Showing false proofs of infidelity caused "unnecessary distress".
It is important to highlight that this edition of Love Island
Supposedly has a team of mental health professionals
Moreover, they claimed to provide full support to each contestant.
However, these challenges seem to forget about the unnecessary stress caused
To the islanders.
Recently, the show received 25,000 complaints
Over the "Mad movies challenge"
For showing Winter's outburst at Soares.
An Ofcom spokesperson has stated this after the complaints:
"We've received a high volume of complaints about last week's Love Island, which is consistent with a trend of growing complaints about high-profile TV shows. We are carefully assessing the complaints we've received before deciding whether or not to investigate."
Also, an ITV spokesperson made a statement in behalf of the producers:
"We take the emotional wellbeing of all the islanders extremely seriously, we have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times. All the islanders are therefore fully supported by the professionals on site and by their friends in the villa. Islanders can always reach out and talk to someone if they feel the need."
Mental health among reality stars is under scrutiny at the moment.
Thanks to the alarming number of ex-reality contestants losing their lives to suicide.
