Despite the controversy behind the role, Steve Coogan decided to take on it,
and star as the sex offender Jimmy Savile for the BBC production of The Reckoning,
a tale about the life and death of this television personality that even though loved by many during life,
but completely torn apart after death, because of multiple accusations of sexual abuse,
and in case you don't know, multiple accusations mean over 450 allegations, and a lot of them coming from
victims who were underage, letting the general public know that Savile was a pedophile
And he was found guilty by the authorities involved, being named "the most prolific abuser" of the UK
because of the years, he was able to maintain a career, a very successful career at that, while also committing
all these crimes and getting no consequences for them.
The BBC also got involved in a lot of drama because of this, since Savile had a tremendous career working with them
and the multiple occasions they tried to cover up and push back information and documentaries that talked about
everything that went on with Savile and the crimes he committed,
until one year ago, October 2020, when the BBC announced that they were working on a mini-series called
'The Reckoning', where they were going to tell the story of Jimmy Savile's childhood, life, and the crimes
he committed.
People have a lot to say about it, but Steve responded to the concerned audience that
according to him, the script is very smart and tackled a difficult and horrendous topic that
needs to be out there.
But until 'The Reckoning' comes our way, we can only hope that they depict what actually happened,
and don't glorify a horrible person just because he had a loved public image.
