Castlevania: Nocturne, the sequel to the anime based on Konami's video game franchise, has already become a hit with fans and critics alike, earning a top 10 spot on Netflix in its first week. The final episode made it clear that there was much more to explore within its universe. But if there was any doubt that the platform had plans to continue the story, it's now official: a second season is in development. Netflix made the announcement via a teaser showing what appear to be storyboards for the second season of Castlevania: Nocturne.
Series directors Clive Bradley and Kevin Kolde stated, "Thank you to all Castlevania fans, old and new, for your incredible response and support. We are thrilled to be able to bring you so much more in the next chapter of Richter Belmont." The bad news? Beyond the screenshots and confirmation of its development, there were no further details.
The first Castlevania series came to Netflix in 2017 with a total of only 4 episodes. What the platform never thought was that the series would be so successful that it had no choice but to renew it for a second season, which arrived in October 2018. The series got up to four seasons, the last one being released in 2021. What was not thought was that the sequel would come and with better animation and more magic, it resulted in a huge success once again.
Castlevania: Nocturne helped expand the universe by setting the story 300 years after the events of the original four seasons. In this new chapter the story followed a new protagonist, Ritcher Belmont, the last living descendant of Trevor and Sypha.
