According to reports provided by critic Jeff Sneider via The InSneider, Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) may be close to starring in a sci-fi film titled Courage. Speculation is that she will not only take on the lead role, but will also be the producer of the film. Although recent news has put Courage on the radar, this project has been in development for some time without being able to see the light of day. During 2017, news outlet Deadline reported that filmmaker Matthew Vaughn (Argylle and Kingsman), intended to direct the film in collaboration with Fox. However, once Disney began owning the company, plans took a nosedive.
Vaughn, at the time, described the project as "A film with an epic premise, a drama in the vein of Inception and Edge of Tomorrow." There is speculation that Theron is in search of a female director for the project and is considering a possible collaboration with Netflix for financing. Favorite candidates include Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King).
In this context, Theron would be playing a psychiatrist in Courage, fighting to save her family in a dystopian future where the polar ice caps have melted and humanity has taken refuge under a water crystal dome in Chicago, stalked by giant marine aliens who control human minds.
In addition, the actress will star in Two for the Money alongside Daniel Craig, a film by Apple Original Films (Napoleon).
On the other hand, very soon Anya Taylor-Joy (The VVitch) will step into the shoes of the character Charlize played many years ago, but this time it will be in a prequel called 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'. The film will hit theaters on May 23.
